Our Mission
Most Read News exists so that keeping up with the news doesn't depend on being online at the right moment. Every publication we track already publishes a ranking made by its own readers, and those rankings turn over hour by hour, leaving nothing behind. We record them continuously, so a story that drew readers last Tuesday, or last quarter, stays as easy to find as today's front page.
What we don't do is decide which of those stories matters. The ordering belongs to the readers; our part is to keep the record and make it worth browsing.
How It Works
How We Rank News
Our backend engine employs a continuous sampling architecture that monitors the "Most Read" indices of major newsrooms and specialist publications. Unlike standard aggregators that rely on social media engagement or editorial selection, our algorithm tracks the lifespan of an article's prominence.
By calculating the duration and position of a headline across multiple observation windows, we generate a proprietary Popularity Score. Both how long a story stays and how high it climbs count, and position weighs heavily: an hour at the top of a list is worth many times an hour at the foot of it, so a short spell at #1 can outrank a long, low run. It is a measure of where readers kept a story, not a judgment about which story was worth reading.
Article categorization and tagging is assisted by a language model; ranking itself is never touched by AI or human editors.
